How job costing works

From proposal to final statement, in one place.

  1. 01

    Propose

Draft a branded proposal with the scope broken into line items — labor, materials, fees. Send it for signature and the client signs in their browser. Approve it and those same line items become the budget you track against, so nothing gets retyped.

  2. 02

    Track

Connect your bank once and charges land in your inbox on their own. Drop each one on a budget line and budget vs. actual moves with it. Vendor rules learn the repeat charges, so the lumber yard files itself next time.

  3. 03

    Report

When the client asks where the money went, send a branded project statement instead of a spreadsheet. Change orders, payments and every category are already in it, and it downloads as a PDF in one click.

Questions

What contractors ask before signing up.

What is job costing?
Tracking what a single job actually costs against what you estimated for it, category by category, while the job is still running. Accounting software tells you how the business did last quarter. Job costing tells you whether the remodel you're standing in is making money today.
Do I still need QuickBooks?
Probably, and that's fine. Blueprint Ledger isn't accounting software — there's no payroll, no sales tax, no year-end return. It's the job-level view your accounting package doesn't give you. Most contractors keep their books exactly where they are and use this to see where each job stands.
How is this different from Buildertrend or Procore?
Those are full construction-management platforms — scheduling, CRM, document control, client portals — with a price to match. This does one thing: what each job costs versus what you estimated. If you've bounced off a big platform because it was far more software than you needed, that's the gap this fills.
Can I connect my bank?
Yes, on Premium. Bank feeds run through SimpleFIN Bridge, so charges arrive in your inbox on their own and you categorize them instead of retyping them. You can also import a CSV or Excel file from your bank. Every account starts with a 7-day Premium trial, no credit card.
What do I get on the free plan?
Up to 3 active jobs for one person, with budget vs. actual tracking, change orders, client payments, job templates and branded client reports. No credit card and no time limit. Bank sync, file imports, receipt attachments, proposal e-signatures and the 1099 report are Premium.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
It stays yours. You can download a full export of your jobs, transactions and payments from Settings at any time, including after you downgrade. Cancelling moves you back to the free plan — it doesn't delete anything you've already entered.
